BOOK REVIEW: The Debt and the Doormat by Laura Barnard

I set myself a new years resolution to read 25 books this year and I have been getting into reading again this month. I was having a look through my Kindle and finally decided to give The Debt and the Doormat a read and I just had to talk about it today but it is such a good book - a perfect summer chick lit read. I am kicking myself for not reading this one sooner because I really enjoyed it.
I will try my best to not reveal any spoilers because I don't want to ruin it for you! The Debt and the Doormat by Laura Barnard is based around Poppy and Jazz who have been best friends since the first week of Uni and where ever they go together, trouble isn't too far behind! Jazz gets herself into debt and Poppy offers to help her out like the good friend that she is but she quickly gets talked into swapping lives with Jazz. She moves into Jazz's house and mets Ryan, a gorgeous yet grumpy housemate. Before Poppy knows it she has a fake boyfriend and is keeping so many different secrets that she could burst at any moment. And that is all I am going to say on the plot of the book because otherwise I will reveal spoilers!

If chick lit is something you like to read then this book is going to be right up your street. From start to finish I really enjoyed this book and was hooked from the first chapter. I actually read the book in two sittings because I just couldn't stop reading it - I had to know what happened with Poppy and Jazz! It takes a lot for my to laugh out loud at a book and there is some hilarious moments in it when I actually laughed so loud my mum shouted at me! Poppy and Jazz, the main characters, I found to every likeable and relatable, having been in debt I relate quite a bit to Jazz. What I really loved about this book was all the little details, like meeting Ryan's Grandma for example. The end of this book took all of my attention and I literally haven't stopped thinking about what time happen next which is when I know it is a good book! For a book that is 450 odd pages long, I found it very easy to read and honestly enjoyed very chapter.

If you are looking for a good book to read on holiday I cannot recommend The Debt and the Doormat enough. It is free on Amazon so if you have a Kindle its perfect! If you don't have a Kindle you can download the Kindle app onto many different devices such as iPhone and iPad. I can't believe this book is free to be quite honest, I could have happily paid for this one! I can't wait to get reading the second book because I have to know what happens next!
