How I Got Clear Skin

Ever since I was about 14 I have struggled with my skin. I have tried so many different products and medications to get my skin clear and after years of trying every product possible I have found a section of products that keep my skin as clear as possible. I hope this post will help anyone struggling with their skin, I wish I found out about these products when I was younger so I could have got my skin under control sooner.

When I say I struggled with my skin, I had pretty bad acne and still do. Not only do I get on my face but I also used to get it on the tops of my back and shoulders. I get the typical spots and whiteheads but I also get very painful under the skin lumps, known as Nodules and Cysts which is pretty bad and has caused a lot of discolouration and scarring and not to mention extremely painful especially if I have multiple at one time.
When my skin started to get bad at the age of 14 my Mum took me to the doctors and I was prescribed a couple of different treatments in the form of gels. These resulted in making my skin worse and actually dried out the skin and made it flake off. After going back and forth to the doctors for around two years and seeing a different doctor they recommended that I went on the conceptive pill, I would only recommend this if you are of age and seek a doctors opinion first and see what they recommend. I have been on Yasmin since I was 16 and it has helped massively with my skin. All of the acne I had on my shoulders and upper back disappeared within a couple of months and the acne on my face did go down for a year or two and still keeps it under control for most of the month.

The number one thing I recommend to everybody when they talk about having issues with their skin is a good cleanser. The Liz Earle Cleanse and Polish completely changed my skin for the better and I have never been so grateful for a product. Before I started using this my skin was extremely oily and the acne was still very bad but as soon as I started using this as part of my night time routine it pretty much cleared up and my skin isn't oily anymore. I always notice a difference when I don't use this and I don't think I could ever not use this cleanser. I have sensitive skin and I have never had any issues with using this.

From a very young age whenever I had a spot I always put Sudocrem on it. I still use it now but I have found better treatments for my skin for when it is having a bad breakout. If you only suffer from the occasional spot I would give this a try as it is very inexpensive and had always worked for me. Whenever I have used this on small spots it is pretty much cleared up by the next morning. I did a full review on this last year if you want to hear about it in more detail - link

For acne breakouts and the types of acne I have I use La Roche Posay's Effaclar Duo+. I am actually onto my second tube of this and whenever my skin is at its worst I use this. I use this twice a day during the bad periods and try to continue to use it every other day when my skin is clearer to make it stay that way, which is actually recommended. This gets rid of acne so well and doesn't dry out the skin. I apply it only to the areas of my breakouts which is my chin and around my nose. If you want to see before and after pictures from me using this, you can check out the full review here.  La Roche Posay to have a three step system which I would recommend if you have skin problems too as I found it to be pretty effective - review here

If you have discolouration and scarring left behind from acne I would recommend giving the Avene Cleanance Expert Emulsion a try. This is the only product that I have tried which not only gets rid of any current breakouts but actually gets rid of the scarring and redness left behind. I apply this once daily and let it work its magic. I have always suffered from tiny whiteheads on my chin which I have never been able to get rid of but this product got rid of them! Again I have done a full review on this with before and after pictures which really do speak for themselves - review here.
