The Importance of a Digital Detox

I think everyone would agree with me when I say that we are always plugged into the internet. I know that I always have my phone in my hand and can find it difficult to stay offline for a day or two. But I do think it is important to take time away from the internet as I get a little dependant on it so I like to try and take at least a few hours a week or a few days a month internet free.
The Importance of a Digital Detox
A digital detox is having a temporary leave from technology and the internet which will help you focus on social interaction while reducing stress and being fully present in the 'offline' world. How many times have you gone out to dinner and checked your phone multiple times? I know I am guilty of this and find it better to leave my phone in the car so I am forced to take a digital break. Taking a temporary digital detox can help improve your focus and concentration as well as the quality of your sleep. I know I am definitely going to try and have a digital detox regularly, even if it is for a few hours every few days. We all need that time away from your phones and the internet world. When I have taken a few hours away from the internet I always feel much more focused and refreshed.

There are so many easy things you can try to not be on your phone so much, like using an actual alarm clock instead of using the one on your phone! Every morning when I wake up the first thing I do after turning off my alarm is check my social media accounts to see what I have missed - but is it really that important? Another great recommendation I think it brilliant is to leave all devices outside of the bedroom when you go to sleep so you don't even have the temptation to check all your apps for an hour or so before going to sleep. Whenever I notice that I am spending far too much time on my phone I like to go for a walk without it just for an hour or so. I like to people watch and take in the surroundings of my little town without thinking of what I can take an Instagram of.

If you don't think you use your phone that much throughout the day to check your social media accounts and emails, try spending a few hours without it and you might notice a difference. The average person checks their smart phone 150 times a day!! Even while I am writing this post my concentrate levels are so low that I must have stopped and checked my Twitter timeline at least four times, when if I just concentrated I would get things done much quicker and feel more productive.

Would you be interested in trying a digital detox? I would love to know your thoughts!
