Somewhere Only We Know - Maurene Goo | Book Review

It's been a while since I have read any YA and this was the perfect read to get me back into it. Whenever summer rolls around, YA is always my go-to genre of books as they're usually always light and fluffy. This is the first book I have read my Maurene Goo and it won't be the last!

Blurb

10 00 p.m.: Lucky is the biggest K-pop star on the scene, and she's just performed her hit song "Heartbeat" in Hong Kong to thousands of adoring fans. She's about to debut on The Tonight Show in America, hopefully a breakout performance for her career. But right now? She's in her fancy hotel, trying to fall asleep but dying for a hamburger.
11 00 p.m.: Jack is sneaking into a fancy hotel, on assignment for his tabloid job that he keeps secret from his parents. On his way out of the hotel, he runs into a girl wearing slippers, a girl who is single-mindedly determined to find a hamburger. She looks kind of familiar. She's very cute. He's maybe curious.
12:00 a.m.: Nothing will ever be the same.

My Review

This book was different than what I thought it would be and all the reasons why I liked it so much. This is a book about self-discovery, following your dreams and insta-love. It mainly takes place all within 24 hours and I loved the pace of this book, I flew through it! I really liked the characters and I loved that it was told from each of their perspectives. I felt conflicted with Jack at points but I'm glad that he did the right thing in the end. Lucky was perfection and really transformed into her full self throughout the book. Lucky does have anxiety and it's lightly touched on but I do think it was done well.

Both of the main characters Korean but from LA and the book is set in Hong Kong and I loved everything about this. I usually read books based in New York so I loved the change and now I want to read everything from this author. I loved how much food was involved in this story, I now want to try everything that was mentioned, I am the most boring eater ever but everything sounded great so I need to see what the fuss was about. If you're a K pop fan, you will probably love this book, it talks about things I wasn't aware of like the training aspect of it. I am very much new to the world of K pop, Blackpink is one of my new favourite things to listen to!

While this is a light book, it does have depth to it and I really enjoyed reading it. However, when you think about the plot from an outside perspective, it is a little weird but I'm not going to give you any spoilers.
