Blurb

"When Minnie meets Quinn at a NYE party, it’s clear that they’ve got nothing in common – except for the strange fact of their being born in the same place at the same time on New Year’s Eve. A crazy coincidence, but not a reason to pursue a friendship, and definitely not an excuse for Quinn to hope for something more.

He is a privileged party boy who believes the world is his for the taking. She is a hard-working realist, whose lack of confidence tends to hold her back.

Opposites don’t really attract…it’s not like this is a rom-com, right?

The clock strikes midnight, their moment passes, and another year begins. But if Quinn and Minnie are from different worlds, why do they keep bumping into each other? And why is it that each frustrating interaction somehow seems to push their lives in the right direction? Could it be that instead of clashing, their different outlooks might complement each other?

Perhaps now is the time for them to finally come together..."

My Review

I am going to keep this spoiler-free as I want everyone who loves the romance genre to give this book a read! I adored this book and for me, it was more of a contemporary story with a romance than an actual romance book if that makes sense. But it isn't just romance, it's about friendships and finding yourself in your late twenties/thirties, family responbilties and realistic characters. It also talks about mental health, anxiety and briefly about going to therapy.

This book follows Minnie and Quinn over the course of 2020 but also in NYE flashbacks throughout their lives and this book is brilliantly and beautifully written. It was well-paced and made me emotional (I rarely cry at books, I was listening on audio to this story at work and I actually got really teary-eyed towards the end) but it also made me smile and laugh too as there is some great banter and witty moments throughout. I loved the journey of Minnie and Quinn's relationship as it was complex.

This book made me feel optimistic which everybody could use with the current state of the world. I really liked all of the secondary characters and their storylines as it really enhanced the book for me and everyone was so likeable. You can tell that Sophie has worked in TV as this book had a cinematic vibe to it and I really hope it gets adapted because it would be an incredible movie.

I loved the overall message of this book and how it was heartwarming but also a really fun read that I couldn't put down. A full five stars from me and I would highly recommend!

This Time Next Year is out now (the ebook is currently 99p which is a bargain!)
