Recent Reads #33: First Books of 2022

It has been about six months since I wrote my last recent reads post and I thought it was time to bring them back! My 2022 reading goal is 350 books which is a little nuts but I read 316 in 2021 so hopefully I can do it! If you want to know more about the books I read you can add me on GoodreadsMy Enemy Next Door by Whitney G and Nicole London

"“Give it to me harder.” “Ohhhhh, yes, Baby!” “I’m about to come…

No, these aren’t the lines from a porno script. These are the loud moans that are currently coming through my neighbor’s wall. (I’ve even heard her say “Oh Daddyyyy!” a time or two, but no judgement.)

Since moving to New York and taking a job at a new firm, I haven’t had a good night’s sleep thanks to my neighbor’s “sexcapades.”

What the hell is she doing over there?

If that wasn’t bad enough, the woman I’ve always wanted in college also works at this firm, but she makes my days difficult since she still considers me to be an “enemy” and refuses to talk to me.

It’s not until I confront my neighbor about her moans that I realize that they’re the same person.

And she’s been keeping a dirty, audiobook narrator secret…"

If I ever want a quick read I always go for something from Whitney G and this book was perfect steamy fun! I read the whole book in a little over an hour and I didn't want it to end which is usually the problem I have with a Whitney G book.

"Santiago Alatorre
One mistake destroys my career.
I go from most eligible bachelor to monster, hiding from the world.
At least until Chloe breaks into my home.
My new fake girlfriend is a temporary fix to my biggest problem.
But as our game changes, so do my feelings.
There’s only one issue stopping me from claiming her.
Me.

Chloe Carter
It all started with a birthday wish, some vodka, and an ancestry kit.
That’s how I end up in Italy, finding my long-lost father.
But one decision lands me a fake boyfriend I don’t want.
The more we pretend, the easier our ruse becomes.
I told myself not to fall in love with a liar like Santiago.
I should have listened."

This is my first favourite book of the year! I love Lauren Asher's books and I have read them all but one now. If you like F1 and romance books you will love this series. This is the final book in the series but all of them can be read as standalones. This is probably the least steamy book I have read so far this month but the intimacy level was off the charts. Lauren gives me all the feels.

"Eight weeks of forced proximity is a long time to hate someone you’re trying not to love.

Sebastian Stremmel doesn’t need another headache. He has enough of his own without Sara Shapiro, the noisy new reconstructive surgeon, stomping all around his surgical wing with her chippy, chirpy cheerfulness.

But Sebastian doesn’t usually get what he wants.

No one gets under his skin like Sara - so much so a heated “debate” and an exam room left in shambles later, they land themselves in eight weeks of hospital-mandated conflict resolution counseling. Now they’re forced to fight fair…which quickly leads them to playing dirty when no one’s looking.

They know it’s a mistake.

They promise themselves it will never happen again.

They swear they got it out of their systems.

They didn’t.

Author’s Note: Grumpy/recovering people-pleaser sunshine. Introverts attract. Enemies-to-lovers in the workplace. Banter, bicker, and button-pushing foreplay. Don’t tell the friend group, get jealous when the friend group tries to fix her up.

Heat: rip her clothes off before you get the front door open.
CW/TW: chronic illness, absent/negligent parents, history of disordered eating."

This was a three star read for me. I enjoyed it and finished it within 24 hours but something was missing for me and I can't fully put my finger on it. This book covers a lot and features all of my favourite tropes.

"He knows how to score, on and off the ice

Allie Hayes is in crisis mode. With graduation looming, she still doesn’t have the first clue about what she's going to do after college. To make matters worse, she’s nursing a broken heart thanks to the end of her longtime relationship. Wild rebound sex is definitely not the solution to her problems, but gorgeous hockey star Dean Di Laurentis is impossible to resist. Just once, though, because even if her future is uncertain, it sure as heck won’t include the king of one-night stands.

It’ll take more than flashy moves to win her over
Dean always gets what he wants. Girls, grades, girls, recognition, girls…he’s a ladies man, all right, and he’s yet to meet a woman who’s immune to his charms. Until Allie. For one night, the feisty blonde rocked his entire world—and now she wants to be friends? Nope. It’s not over until he says it’s over. Dean is in full-on pursuit, but when life-rocking changes strike, he starts to wonder if maybe it’s time to stop focusing on scoring…and shoot for love."

This was a reread for me and I blame TikTok for it. I really enjoyed the reread and if you are looking for a college romance series to read, I can't recommend the Off Campus and Briar U series' enough. The first book in each series is free on ebook too.
