Kindle E-Reader Review

I have had a few of the Kindles from Amazon, I had my previous E-Reader Kindle for 5 or 6 years and while it still works fine apart from a small ink bleed in the screen, I was due an upgrade. I also have the Kindle Fire that I used to read on for about a year but I have trouble with my eyes and the standard Kindles work much better for me.

My parents got me the Kindle* (£59.99) for my birthday and now that I have been using for almost a month, I'm obsessed with it. It took some getting used to but now I'm so thankful for the upgrade. The Amazon Kindle is available in black and white and retails for £59.99 with 'special offers' or £69.99 without. I have the one with special offers and I honestly didn't know what that meant but it's basically ADs. You get adverts on the screen when it's turned off and at the bottom of the homepage, even if you do buy the one with 'special offer's you can pay the extra £10 at any time to have them removed, I would personally never spend the extra £10 as they don't bother me in the slightest. They don't appear while you're actually reading but if they did, that would be the only reason why I could consider paying the fee.

This Kindle has a 6-inch glare-free screen with a battery life that can last weeks on a single charge. It comes with 4gb of storage which is more than enough, I have never filled the storage on a Kindle as the file size of books is very small. There are two major differences with this Kindle than with my last one, this one has a touchscreen and you're able to listen to audiobooks with Audible if you have Bluetooth headphones or speakers. It's extremely quick and easy to set up and you download books via WiFi. This kindle is much lighter and thinner than my last Kindle and it's extremely comfortable to hold.

The touchscreen took me a while to get used to, the first few days I was accidentally purchasing books and changing the font size. Even after using this daily for a few weeks, I do still keep changing the font size on accident. This is the only thing I dislike about it because it's so easy to change it and it annoys me when I'm really into a book. One thing I love about this Kindle compared to my last one is that on the home screen, you can actually see the book covers! On my last Kindle, you could only see the author's name and the title. The battery life is great and it charges really quickly. I read at least five books a week at the moment and I'm finding that I only have to charge it one a week. I do find that the battery lasts much longer if I leave it on Airplane mode.

You're able to customise the font size and font size which I love as I find specific fonts much easier to read. I don't see much of a difference between reading on this device vs reading a paperback as the pixel level is good enough for me! I really like reading on this and for the money, I can't recommend it enough. While reading a book, you can actually see how much time you have left before finishing a chapter or the book in total and this is one of my favourite features. I'm always trying to squeeze in an extra chapter! With the rate that I read books, it's much more affordable for me to read on a Kindle. The books are so much cheaper and thanks to Kindle Unlimited, I haven't actually purchased more than 10 of my books so far this year. I also don't have the room for as many paperbacks as I would like and I like knowing that I can carry around as many books as I like in my handbag thanks to my Kindle.

One thing I would recommend purchasing if you do get this Kindle or already have one is a case. As it's touchscreen, it will be much easier to damage. I ordered the NuPro Slim-Fit Case* in Pink as soon as I got my Kindle and I'm obsessed with it. I got it £5 cheaper through the Amazon Warehouse as the box was damaged but the case itself was brand new. The case actually makes holding the Kindle easier and it automatically wakes or turns off the Kindle when you open and close it.
