Meet Cute by Helena Hunting | Book Review

One of my favourite type of books to read is a cute, funny romance and this book sounded right up my street. I hadn't read anything by Helena Hunting before but I loved this book so much that I already have ordered another by her.
Blurb

" Kailyn Flowers was always calm and controlled - until she ended up sprawled all over Daxton Hughes, the former actor she totally crushed on as a teenager. In seconds, she became a mortifying fangirl and oddly enough, he didn't run away. Instead, their meet cute led to something she never expected: a friendship. Of course, she never expected him to betray her, either . . .
Eight years later, Dax needs Kailyn's help. Years of anger towards him haven't exactly left Kailyn inclined to oblige, but she also isn't heartless enough to turn him down. She vows to be friendly, but soon their 'friendly' meetings turn into flirty dinner dates, and Kailyn can feel their chemistry is as explosive as ever. But how can she possibly let down her guard again to a guy who has heartbreak written all over him? "
My Review
I love a rom-com and this book is exactly that but it has a hint of tragedy running throughout the story. I loved Daxton and Kailyn's journey through this book and the way that they met right at the beginning of the book and how slowly Kailyn began to warm to Daxton once they met again after five years. I really liked the aspect of Daxton being TV star when he was younger as I hadn't read anything like that before and it made for some hilarious and cute moments, especially right at the end of the book.

It's definitely more of a slow burn romance, it didn't jump straight into it and it didn't fully start until around 100 pages in which I liked and appreciated, I think it made the story much richer. While I bought this book for the romance of it, I adored Emme and she was my favourite element to this book, I really felt for her but she was also pretty funny. I loved her character and her relationship with Kailyn especially. Emme really made me laugh out loud, I loved the shopping trip scenes!

Even though this is a rom-com, it has much more depth to it than other ones that I have read recently and I wasn't expecting that. I didn't find it to be super predictable and I love Helena's writing style. There were a few twists that I wasn't completely expecting and to keep it as spoiler free as I can, Linda can suck it. This was a really quick read and I just couldn't put it down! I read it in one sitting and I will definitely be rereading this again soon as I enjoyed it so much. I usually don't love epilogues as I find them super predictable but I LOVED this one.

One last thing - how beautiful is that cover?!
