My Review

Beach Read was one of my favourite books of 2020 and I couldn’t wait for Emily’s next release. You and Me on Vacation was one of my most anticipated releases of the year and it did not disappoint. This is a friends to lovers romance told through present day scenes and flashbacks to previous summers spent together and all from Poppy’s perspective. Like with Beach Read, I was so absorbed into the story and whenever I put it down I was thinking about Poppy and Alex.

We start at the beginning of the book knowing that Poppy and Alex haven’t spoken for two years and we don’t know why. But they take a trip together and as they book progresses, you slowly learn the whole backstory to their relationship. It was so incredibly written. I’ve said this in previous posts of mine but there is something special about Emily’s writing. There is so much emotion pouring off the pages that I had tears in my eyes at certain points but also within the first forty pages I was laughing out loud. And let’s just say the scene in the rain was one of my favourites.

I loved Poppy and I fully understood her and I was rooting for her and Alex throughout the book after a couple of chapters. I loved their relationship with how Poppy brings Alex out of his shell and I love her sense of humour! I liked how as a reader we almost had to work for the HEA, it didn’t come easily and it made sense for the characters wholeheartedly. There were a few of my favourite tropes sprinkled in throughout but I don’t want to give away any spoilers! It also features unrequited love to some degree and that has been an element in romance books that I have been enjoying recently and it was done really well in this one.

Now I need to reread Beach Read. I highly recommend You and Me on Vacation and I can’t wait to read whatever Emily publishes next.

The ebook is currently 99p and the paperback is available for preorder now and is out on the 22nd of July 2021!
