It's been a few months since I shared some of the shows and movies I have been watching. I'm still reading a tonne of books but when I do watch something, it's usually true crime based so, of course, I have a few docs to share today. Secrets of Playboy
''During the 1990s, young women flocked to Los Angeles with hopes of being the next Playmates. Yet for those not deemed attractive enough for the magazine, men in Hefner's inner circle set up 'shadow' mansions where women were exploited.''
I started listening to Holly and Bridget's podcast, Girls Next Level, and Holly had mentioned this docuseries a couple of times so I decided to give it a watch. Anything you think could have been happening at Playboy was happening and so much stuff I could have never predicted. The show is ten episodes and I highly recommend giving it a watch if you like true crime and if you watched The Girls Next Door.
Luckiest Girl Alive
''A writer's perfectly crafted New York City life starts to unravel when a true-crime documentary forces her to confront her harrowing high school history and question the choices she made as a teenager.''
I don't watch thrillers often but I love Mila so I knew I had to give this a watch and I enjoyed it! It was quite intense and I couldn't work out how it was going to end and usually, when that happens, I will google spoilers but I didn't with this one!
Sen Cal Kapimi
''Eda longs to become a landscape architect. After losing her parents when she was young, this brilliant student pursued her studies with scholarships. However, a man will cross her path and scupper her plans.''
If it has a romantic plot, I will watch it. And this Turkish drama had been all over TikTok so I had to give it a watch. I have two episodes left and I'm saving them because Ioved the show and I now need to watch all the Turkish dramas! I wasn't expecting to learn some of the languages which was a great bonus!
Sins of Our Mother
''After Lori Vallow's children vanish, the search for them brings to light a trail of suspicious deaths, apocalyptic beliefs -- and murder.''
This was only a couple of episodes but it was bonkers. I knew a little bit about Lori as I do keep up to date with news relating to cults but I didn't know the full story until I watched this one. If you haven't seen this one yet and like true crime, this is worth a binge-watch.
Untold: The Girlfriend Who Didn't Exist
''Untold: The Girlfriend Who Didn't Exist is a 2022 American Netflix original documentary film directed by Tony Vainuku and Ryan Duffy. The film is the sixth installment in the nine-part Untold documentary film series.''
I really enjoy the Untold content but this one was by far my favourite watch of the series. It was a little nuts, if I'm being honest! I don't watch sports outside of Formula One and I had heard of Manti but didn't know too much of the actual story.
What have you watched recently?
