Urban Decay All Nighter Concealer Review // Is It Better Than Shape Tape?

I love trying out concealers, they are one of my favourite makeup products! Tarte Shape Tape has become my holy grail concealer, I am still in love with it all these months later. After hearing at the Urban Decay All Nighter Concealer was better...I had to try it out for myself. It's been interesting to say the least.

Urban Decay All Nighter Concealer Review
Dried down Fair Neutral & Light Neutral vs Freshly applied.

The Urban Decay All Nighter Concealer is an oily girls best friend. It is so long wearing, it's seriously impressive but if you do have dry skin I don't think you would like this honestly. I can apply this at 5 am and at midnight it will still be going strong. It has a waterproof formulation and it really does not budge, I swatched this on my hand and after washing them multiple times throughout the day it didn't move. It comes in 14 shades and will provide flawless matte coverage. It is very blendable considering how matte it is but you do have to act fairly quickly with it, I prefer to blend it with a damp beauty blender rather than a brush. Even though it is a very matte concealer, I haven't found it to be drying on the skin but I do have to be careful not to apply too much as it can look heavy on the skin. I have been using it on spots and discolouration as well as under the eyes and I do love it both ways.

Let's chat about the shade range for a second... I have never got the wrong shade in a base product, I'm not the palest girl but I always need one of the lightest shades available. I watched KathleenLight's video on this and she had the shade Light Neutral and having looked at swatches online I thought that would be the perfect shade for me. I wanted something a touch darker than my Shape Tape concealer as that can be a little too light on me but my goodness, this shade is completely wrong! There is nothing light about this shade in the slightest, I actually put a poll up on Twitter (without naming the product) to ask what shade people thought it was and to see if it was just me that thought this shade was wrong. 37% said dark, 56% said medium, clearly it's not just me who thinks this shade is far too dark to be called 'light'.

There is no way I could ever wear this shade with my natural skin tone, not even in the summer. I am going to need some serious fake tan to make this work. So after that fail of a shade, I dropped another £20 and got the shade Fair Neutral which if I'm honest, still isn't quite right but it definitely wearable. Another issue with this product is when it dries down it oxides horrendously. I have tried my best to show this in the swatches but in person, it does look much worse. In the comparison swatches of other concealers, you can see just how much darker Light Neutral is and even Fair Neutral doesn't match up with the other brands' fair shades. I have the Naked Concealer in Fair Warm and even though the undertones are obviously different, the shades are completely different which doesn't make sense to me. There shouldn't be this much of a difference. If you do want to try this, I would highly recommend going a couple shades lighter than you actually are or going into store to swatch it and leave it five minutes to actually see what shade you will be.

Is it better than Tarte Shape Tape?

My answer would honestly be no and I don't even think they really compare. While the All Nighter Concealer does last longer, that's due to the fact that it dries down completely matte and will not budge whereas Shape Tape doesn't dry down as much as the Urban Decay one. Both of them have incredible coverage without a doubt but the Urban Decay All Nighter Concealer can look quite heavy on the skin whereas Tape Shape looks slightly more natural on the skin while having full coverage no matter how much I apply. I have found that you do need to use a lot more product of the All Nighter Concealer to get as much coverage as you do out of Shape Tape which is an issue as you get a lot less product with Urban Decay than you do Shape Tape. You get 10ml of Shape Tape and 3.5ml with the All Nighter Concealer. It's worth noting that Shape Tape is only £2 more than the Urban Decay one and I had to buy two All Nighter's because of the shade range issue.

I use Shape Tape religiously under the eyes and the All Nighter Concealer does work well for this but you do have to be very careful with how much you apply as it can settle into any lines, especially if you don't blend it quick enough. I prefer the applicator of Shape Tape, it's much bigger and softer on the skin. If I had to recommend one or the other, I am still going with Tarte Shape Tape even though I do actually like the Urban Decay All Nighter Concealer despite its problems.

The Urban Decay All Nighter Concealer retails for £20 - HERE and the Tarte Shape Tape Concealer retails for £22 - HERE.

If you've tried both please let me know your thoughts on them, I'd love to hear what you think.
