How I Got Rid of Acne & The 10 Year Favourites

I bloody love skincare. I love trying out new products and seeing the results and finding those wonder products that nobody talks about. I have had acne for about 11 years now and while my skin is so much better than it ever was, I do still have the occasional cystic acne flare-up. Today I am going to share everything that has helped my skin over the last ten years.
How I Got Rid of Acne & The 10 Year Favourites
The main thing that transformed my skin is being on the pill. I have been on Yasmin for a long time now and it cleared up 85% of my acne so I am a little worried about coming off it which I plan to do this year. If your skin is painful because of acne, I would definitely recommend seeing a doctor, especially if you have cystic acne as it is incredibly painful.

I started double cleansing in my teens and using Liz Earle's Cleanse and Polish and it was a game-changer. It is still my all-time favourite skincare product all of these years later. It really helped clean up my skin and it's a seriously good makeup remover. Trying out a few different products to see what your skin likes is one of the best things I have ever done. I tried out a few different acids and acne treatment ingredients to see what works best for me. And for me its salicylic acid. You can buy salicylic acid from The Ordinary and I started using it back in 2017 and I can't say enough good things about it. It's also extremely affordable.

Rosehip Oil is something I started using for hydration and didn't expect to work wonders for my acne and spots but it did. My skin loves this stuff! It's something I like to use with acids in my evening skincare routines as it helps get rid of the breakouts while also hydrating the skin. The Ole Henriksen Invigorating Night Serum is a more expensive product but it really works for my skin. It helps keep my acne at bay while also helping with the scarring. A product I used when my skin was at its worst and that made a huge difference was the La Roche Posay Effaclar Duo (you can see my before and after photos here from 2014). The Serozinc product from the same brand is another great product to have in your skincare routine if you have acne-prone skin.
